We love indie!
Monday is 4th July – Independence Day for the US and - for us here in the UK – Independents’ Day, a day dedicated to supporting local retailers.
We’ve all seen Mary Portas on TV on her one-woman mission to revive the (almost) dying indie industry in Britain, but how realistic is it to give up the convenience of shopping multi-million-pound corporations?
Some may say not very – but there are small things we can do to boost the indie industry. Whether it’s buying British-made fashion, locally grown food, music from local record stores or manufacturing in the UK, every little bit helps.
So with that in mind, the 4th July has been named as the day to celebrate local retailers across the country. For one day, we’re encouraged to buy at least one item from an independent retailer and to celebrate being an indie retailer ourselves - we’ll be offering 10% off everything at Bunny Smalls on Monday. Get shopping indie!
Notes from the cutting table…
Welcome to the inside scoop from behind the scenes at Bunny Smalls. The last 12 months has been a mix of blood, sweat and tears (quite literally), as we’ve tried to get bunnysmalls.com off the ground.
A vast number of things have helped provide the motivation for the launch (in no particular order): the Rolling Stones and The Black Keys on repeat, a regular supply of red wine, a discerning house rabbit, a passion for promoting all things ‘Made in Britain’, a love of lacy lingerie, an addiction to sourcing fabulous fabrics, a marvelous web developer/gourmet sandwich-maker, the thought of giving a good friend and new mum a reason to leave the house, the Christian Dior exhibition at Somerset House, a well-received lace garter made for a friend’s wedding, Mad Men’s Betty & Don Draper, The Social Network, a somewhat competitive nature, Amelia’s Compendium of Fashion Illustration, supportive friends, enthusiastic market stall shoppers and a belief in creating something that’s been beautifully handmade - from start to finish.
From now on we will be bringing you regular updates of developments, previews of new products, backstage footage of photoshoots, as well as details of what inspires us at Bunny Smalls. We’d love to hear your comments and look forward to you joining us on our lacy lingerie adventure. xx
